Tags & draw odds

Tag type: Limited draw.

Limited rifle/either-sex codes have historically drawn at roughly 0–2 nonresident points; archery either-sex moved to draw in 2025. Verify current-year odds with CPW.

Access & crowding

Largely road and ATV accessible (not a wilderness unit); 4WD advised on the primitive roads.

Pressured, ATV-accessible public land — unpressured elk are hard to find and mature bulls retreat to private.

Who GMU 421 is for

A better-than-average opportunity unit with some bull quality (mature bulls often 250–290", occasionally larger — secondary estimate), though the best bulls hold on private.

In a line: The DIY hunter who wants a low-point, drawable west-slope tag with real bull potential and will grind pressured public land.

Recent changes: Archery either-sex moved to limited draw for 2025 (the end of nonresident OTC archery).

Elk Glade Outfitters runs primarily in GMU 59, not this unit — but we know the surrounding country and the regional draw landscape. If you have a tag here or you’re building points toward one, get in touch and we’ll talk through the strategy. If you don’t draw, we may have a 59 slot.

Data sources: elk success rates from CPW Colorado Elk Harvest Estimates (year labeled above). Public-land percentages are approximate. Draw point requirements shift every year and are described as ranges only — always verify the current-year figures in the CPW big game brochure and draw recap before applying.
